Boxgrove V Singleton
Sunday 09th August 2009
After having the previous weekend not playing due to bad weather it was nice to arrive to blue skies.
After winning the toss Boxgrove elected to field and hoped to put pressure on Singletons openers.
Ben Gottesman applied the pressure greatly but no no avail as poor fielding and dropped catches allowed Singleton to amass
a quick run rate as T Robinson & M Davies put on 117 off 13 overs. A mix up in the call allowed for a run out chance and was taken by
Rew behind the stumps. The next breakthrough came from B O'Connor with a great bowling spell to take the wicket of Robinson( 69 ).
Then Boxgrove slowly came back into the game with improved bowling and fielding to slow the run rate down and after Sinlegton's
quick start managed to reduce them to 203 for 7 of 40 overs.
After tea Boxgrove openers of James Thorpe & Rew Reed set about reducing the deficeit & after facing some great bowling of S Hall managed to get going at the required run rate. But after making 24 Rew edged to slips and was caught. B Gottesman came in at no 3 but never settled and was out for 8. M Holl came to the crease and provided some resistance, until an top edge put the end of James innings on 41. Some more resistance followed and the target of 203 wasn't looking to far away. But to Singleton's credit they didn't panic and picked Mark's wicket up for a gallant 29.
Having got so close Boxgrove required 29 of the last 2 overs and hard as we tried we couldn't quite get the runs required and finished just short on 189 for 6 of our 40 overs.
