The penultimate game of the season ultimately ended in disappointment for Boxgrove. Led by vice captain, Matt Langton, the Boxgrove bowlers dominated their counterparts from the off and thanks to excellent fielding and good, safe catching particularly from Jake Bugden and Ben Gottesman an under par total looked likely. The bowling was particularly effective with Ben Gottesman in devastating form with 4 for 46 off of 10 overs. He was well supported by the highly promising Jake Bugden (2 for 16 off of 4 overs) and the wily Matt Langton (2 for 28 off of 4 overs). However the Pathfinders batsmen rallied towards the end of their innings and set the home side a testing 178 to win.

In reply Boxgrove lost Guy Partridge first ball and when Gordon Bailey followed for 7 the home side were in trouble. All was not lost however while Ben Gottesman was at the wicket but once he departed for 36 there was a steady stream of dismissals with only Steve Tremmel’s swashbuckling 19 catching the eye until he was bizarrely run out. The captain however stayed with his sinking ship until the end and, when Boxgrove were finally put out of their misery for 104, Langton had 9 not out.
