Boxgrove v Arundel

After having made the final last year, Boxgrove set about the challenge by playing Arundel Castle Estates.
Having lost the toss we were asked to bat & both openers of Rew Reed & Ben Gottesman made good headway with
Ben scoring 41 before being bowled. With further support from Matt Langton (18) Rew managed to get to 44 and a 3rd wicket stand of 53 before being bowled himself.
Bringing in Wayne Barrett (14 n.o) to see the side home, finishing with a imposing total of 162. The highest in the tournament.
Having batted well it was down to our bowlers to keep up the pressure & they didn't fail. Taking seven wickets in total, backed with good
fielding, restricting Arundel to 96 of their 20 overs. Tom Lightfoot, Ben Gottesman and Kevin McGeough taking 2 wickets a piece.

Madehurst v Boxgrove

With most of the team either playing on the Friday or the Sunday, Boxgrove were lacking depth within its batting department.
Setting out our goal  to gain as many bonus points as we could. Winning the toss & electing to field, again our bowlers were asked to get as many wickets as possible. As hard as we tried it was hard going and although no real parterships got going as Kevin McGeough  taking 2 vital wickets at the right time backed by Nin Williams and Paul Mant taking 1 each.
Posting a total of 130 our  aim was not to lose many wickets. losing Kevin McGeough early on was not the start we needed, only for Matt Langton to be bowled next ball. All to change as Wayne Barrett came to the crease and gave Rew another solid partership so he could go on to score 31. After that it was a case of damage limtation of which Wayne stayed the course to another not out. The team gaining 3 bonus points as a result.

Boxgrove v Lavant
Having arrived for our last game against Lavant and checking earlier results Madehurst had already qualified for the final.
Arundel couldn't qualify so it was only going to be one of us. Batting first we knew it was going to be tough going but the loss of early wickets again put us into a difficult position, but a solid partnership from Mark Holl and Gordon Bailey (Partnership of 62)
put as back on track and with contrbutions thoughout the line up we managed to post 108.
Now having done this it was important that we kept them under pressure within the field and give bowlers support.
With this in mind we set about our task. With tight bowling from both ends and taking a couple of wickets early on, Matt Langton came on to bowl and by the good work in the outfield by restricting their run rate and good tight bowling came away with a 5 wicket haul ( 5-19 ) and Lavant were in trouble, finishing on 62 all out.

 Madehurst v Boxgrove Final

Having won against Lavant it became a repeat of last year's final. Having won the toss we elected to field. Madehurst started in a flurry
taking the bowling on and racing to 70 for the first 10 overs. Not panicking and sticking to our plan we started to make headway into their batsman. Starting with a stunning caught and bowled by Ben Gottesman to take M Tod on 43. From this we managed to pull it back and bowl Madehurst out for 104.
Knowing what we had to do Rew and Ben opened the batting to only get out cheaply putting 2 runs on. From here on in we collapsed seeing out 20 overs and finishing on 80.
Well done to Madehurst.
On the awards side well done to Rew Reed who won the batting trophy.
I would like to say a big thank you to all the players and their family members in their support for letting us play for the 3 days.
